Get Moving

Make your life epic by taking action. Are you sitting on a hope waiting for it to take you somewhere? Well, it won’t. You have to pick up your hope and start walking. I don’t care how small or insignificant the action is that you take, just take one that moves in the direction of your highest hope.
Refuse to get mired down in a swamp of perpetual planning. Fight like mad against excuses groping to ensnare you. Do so by starting.

One of my hopes is to be a blessing, but that only happens if I share. Planning blog posts, creating lists of ideas, mapping out awesome videos, none of those actions bless anyone until I share it. So, I’ve committed to PUSHING PUBLISH EVERY DAY for the next two years.

That commitment when I made it a month or so ago, scared the ever living day lights out of me. “How can you possibly do that?”, I asked myself. I passive aggressively started working against myself by having a committee meeting in my head. The committee went off on wild tangent’s, raising all manner of objections and questions. “But a lot of what you write doesn’t fit your blog audience. You have no business creating another blog. Does video count? What about podcasts? Does it have to be…blah, blah, blah, blah.

How did I fire that committee? On January 1st, I sat down and wrote the simplest thing I could to get started. I wrote an inspirational email to my subscribers. Then the next day I taught a bible study. Then the next day a published Facebook post. Today I taught a yoga class and am writing this.
Tomorrow, who has any idea what I’ll share (I have couple now that I moving), but I won’t allow my head to hit the pillow unless I hit the button “publish.”

What is your hope and what is the simplest possible action you could take right now to get moving? Would you love to travel to Europe? Go open a new savings account and put $10 in it to get started. That’s how we made our first trip to Italy. Do you want to learn how to play an instrument? Borrow one from somebody even if it’s just for a weekend and google how-to videos. Then beg and borrow until you can have your own instrument. Put the word out to the universe that you need a guitar. Trust me, one will pop up if you ask loud and often enough.

When I started my blog the practical disciple, I wrote a single post of 286 words about prayer. Do you want to guess how long it took me to write the next one? Six months. That’s right, I sat on my duff for a half a year before writing the next article. It was about as pathetic of a start as you could imagine..Since then I have had over 270,926 page views, published a book on prayer, started a podcast, and created two classes all around my blog. But it all started by writing a very imperfect post shorter than what you’ve read here.

The bottom line is, YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE. Just do something, anything, that will get you off of sitting on your hope waiting for it to carry you somewhere. It won’t. You’ll live in a constant state of delayed joy which will only mature into regret and bitterness. Is that really what you want? I don’t think so or you still wouldn’t be reading this.
What are you going to do today to start your epic journey?

PS: Please share this to help someone get moving.
