Challenge Your Assumptions

Make 2019 epic by challenging your assumptions. Specifically, challenge what you feel are limitations. These may actually only be perceived obstacles. Three years ago I felt drawn toward yoga teacher training, but there was a problem. Every certification program I found required you to attend multiple weekend long training sessions. As a pastor, I have a limited number of Sundays I can be gone – far fewer than I needed to complete training.

I reached out to my friend, Courtney Robinson, who trains yoga teachers. I told her my problem and asked her if she knew any programs that weren’t limited to weekends. She asked my specific limits and then she told me something I wasn’t looking for or anticipating, “I can work around that.”

I am blessed now with being in her last teacher training. I found out after registering that I can make-up hours by attending other sessions she teaches that are god-incidentally in Conway where my children live.

Another perceived obstacle was finances. I had to register at a time when I had no idea what my future income would be. We were leaving, but didn’t know where we were landing. I had to step out in faith and trust. I set an intention of paying for all of my training with money beyond our normal paychecks. (Again, not knowing if I would have a paycheck or what it would be.)

The month I started making payments on my training, I received a call out of the blue from a friend who needed me to do some contract work helping her on some projects. So far, my income from that unforeseen work is almost right on the money (pun intended) with exactly what I need to fund my training. God is so good.

There are three valuable lessons here: 1) Your obstacles may only be an obstacle because of your assumptions. 2) Ask and a way my be given to you. 3) Sometimes you must move forward on faith that your doing the right thing and God will provide.
As I finalize my goals for 2019. I am challenging any internal objections I have for my hearts desires. What would you love to see happen this year? What have you longed to do? What have you been telling yourself is the reason it’s not possible? What if that reason is not true?
